Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  2. Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in transportation operations;
  3. Possess qualities of leadership necessary to supervise the employees under his/her direction;
  4. Possess professional certification in transportation through TAPT, NAPT, TASBO,  or equivalent preferred;
  5. Possess and maintains a Texas CDL-B or A, P & S endorsements with acceptable driving record as measured by the School Bus Driver’s Record Evaluation Criteria;
  6. Possess interpersonal skills necessary to communicate successfully with other district personnel, patrons and parents;

 

 

 

Terms of employment:

Qualifications:

1.      High school diploma or GED equivalent;

2.      Proficient in use of PC, Microsoft Works, Excel and the ability to learn current routing program and electronic time and attendance system;

3.      Minimum of two (2) years experience as a school bus driver in a public school district;

4.      Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (Class A or B) with applicable endorsements and have an acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety;

5.      Pass an annual physical examination in accordance with state law and show negative on an annual test and random tests to detect the usage of any unlawful controlled substance pursuant to district policy;

6.      Have completed the School Bus Driver Certification Course as developed by the Texas Education Agency and the Department of Public Safety;

7.      Ability to work irregular hours as needed.

TITLE:          Transportation Supervisor Regular Education                       

 

REPORTS TO:         Director of Transportation

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervise and assist drivers/attendants (minimum 40) in the understanding of department policies and procedures.
  2. Supervise and assist drivers/attendants in the resolution of route problems.
  3. Supervise and assist drivers/attendants in setting up and maintaining paperwork responsibilities.
  4. Supervise and assist drivers/attendants with student management and in the writing and editing of safety reports, send reports to appropriate campuses and communicate with campus administrators and parents.
  5. Calculate, correct, review and approve drivers’/attendants’ timesheets and trip sheets for accuracy and completeness for payroll. Review and correct edit sheets for all employees using the Time and Attendance System.
  6. Calculate and report employees’ standard day information to Routing Coordinator and payroll.
  7. Report employee status changes (full time / part time).
  8. Write and maintain routes and maps for Late Runs, Tutorials, Pre-K and Special Programs.
  9. Track, record, and code employee absences for payroll, and maintain employee absentee records.
  10. Calculate drivers’/attendants’ attendance percentages, administer official notification and conference with employees about excessive absences.
  11. Track drivers’/attendants’ Family Medical Leave absences and balances to properly calculate and report attendance incentive each semester in accordance with district policy and department guidelines.
  12. Prepare, assess and administer annual evaluations on drivers/attendants including 30-day and 90- day interim evaluations in accordance with district policy.
  13. Develop, type and maintain routes and schedules to assure optimum efficiency.
  14. Communicate and problem solve with parents and school personnel in regard to routes, schedules, concerns, conflicts and complaints using diplomacy, discretion and tact to resolve issues.
  15. Prepare and write state routes in accordance with state guidelines and assist drivers in the monthly count of students.
  16. Develop and maintain Transportation Center parking charts and school loading zone bus line-ups, including on site visits before and during arrival/dismissal time.  
  17. Perform as a substitute driver/attendant as needed.
  18. Assist the dispatcher as needed.
  19. Create, write and maintain routes and maps for summer school and summer grant programs.
  20. Establish and maintain professional relationships with school staff and administration communicating in verbal and written form in regards to route schedules and student and/or driver concerns.
  21. Prepare and maintain documentation of employee conferences.
  22. Prepare and maintain routes for driver/attendant route selection for regular and summer school selection.
  23. Create and maintain up-to date route and student information for applicable schools in computerized routing system.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.

DATE: 10/09/08    Wage/Hourly Status: Non-exempt          Pay: Hrly (8 hrs) based on years driver’s experience

QUALIFICATIONS: 

            Education/Certification:

            High school diploma or GED

            Texas CDL (B) with passenger endorsement (P) and school bus endorsement (S)

            TEA driver certification

            Acceptable driving record

            2 years experience as a bus driver in a public school district           

                        Special Knowledge/Skills:

            Demonstrate complete physical control and operation of school buses

            Facilitate positive student management while operating school bus

            Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills

            Strong clerical and computer skills

Transfinder Software Routing Experience Preferred

Attend CPR/First Aid Training when available 

            Attend FISD Special Needs Training Course when available           

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION 

  1. Supervise and assist drivers/monitors in the resolution of route problems.
  2. Supervise and assist drivers/monitors in setting up and maintaining paperwork responsibilities.
  3. Supervise and assist drivers/monitors with student management and in the writing and editing of safety reports.
  4. Be responsible for operating computerized mapping software system.
  5. Create and maintain up-to-date route and student information, for applicable schools in computerized routing system.
  6. Communicate and problem solve with parents and school personnel in regard to routes, schedules, concerns, conflicts and complaints using diplomacy, discretion and tact to resolve issues.
  7. Capable of assisting with developing plans to improve bus operations.
  8. Maintain necessary records, charts, maps, correspondence, etc.
  9. Maintain driver/monitor-administrator communications.
  10. Provide accurate information to Director of Transportation for state reports.
  11. Prepare and write state routes in accordance with state guidelines and assist drivers in the monthly count of students.
  12. Conduct periodic reviews of bus routes including stops, turn around points, driving time, mileage, bus loads and schedules.
  13. Perform as a substitute driver/monitor as needed.
