Job Type Description

Provide/facilitate communications in support of pupil transportation services.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Communication
1. Maintain continuous radio contact between transportation dispatch and school bus operators.
2. Receive incoming telephone calls/visitors and direct as appropriate (handle personally or route to proper staff member)
3. Communicate to appropriate department/campus/agency requests for assistance as needed (administrator, law enforcement, mechanical or other assistance).
4. Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, departments, or agencies, and to all others requiring notification.
5. Monitor road conditions and traffic through local broadcast media, internet, and personal reports and relay such information as appropriate.
Reports/Records
6. Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages.
7. Maintain all required physical and computerized files.
8. Perform data entry with respect to vehicle mileage, field trips, activity routes, etc.
9. Assist with routing, scheduling, and map preparations as required.
Other
10. Maintain confidentiality of information.
11. Serve as substitute bus driver or aide as necessary
12. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the department and district operations

Additional Job Information

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
TAPT Dispatcher Certification or equivalent (or ability to obtain)
Class B CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) School Bus Driver Certification (or ability to obtain)
Ability to pass Texas DPS school bus driver physical examination
Ability to pass pre-employment and other drug/alcohol testing as required
Acceptable driving record as defined by the Texas DPS.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Effective telephone and communication skills
Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively
Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
Proficient map reading skills
Proficient computer skills

Experience:
Two years experience in pupil transportation or public safety telecommunications

 

Technology Literacy

Keyboard, E-mail, Spreadsheets, Word Processing, Internet, Telecommunication Systems 

Clerical / Secretarial

Data Entry, Filing, Receptionist, Communication skills
